New open call in the r4d program
Call for proposals in the r4d Programme: 2nd thematically open call on global issues   The second call of the "Thematically Open research" module is launched. Interested researchers from Switzerland with their partners from Africa, Asia and Latin America are invited to submit their pre-proposals via the mySNF platform by February 6, 2015. The main focus of the "Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development" (r4d Programme) lies on the generation of new insights and innovative approaches, solutions as well as on the application of research results into policy and practice through transnational research partnerships. In the focus of the programme are the reduction of poverty and global risks as well as the provision of public goods.

Schutz der Biodiversität nicht auf Kurs
Der Schutz der Biodiversität und ihrer Leistungen ist nicht auf Kurs und deren Zustand wird sich weiter verschlechtern, wie der am Montag veröffentlichte Weltbiodiversitätsbericht zeigt. Dies gilt auch für die Schweiz. Eine griffige Umsetzung der Strategie Biodiversität Schweiz, deren Aktionsplan in Erarbeitung ist, bleibe deshalb zentral, sagt Markus Fischer, Präsident des Forum Biodiversität der Akademie der Naturwissenschaften.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars
The Swiss Government awards postgraduate scholarships to foreign scholars and researchers. These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research in Switzerland at one of the public funded universities or recognized institutions. Three years’ PhD scholarships and 12 months’ research scholarships at doctoral or postdoctoral level are available. The call for 2015 is now open.
